i wanna race that hatch and see if the weight advantage the hatch has over the coupe matters with a comp cam and coldair intake curious i know the teg will take me off the line but i might catch it in 3rd

lol if we make it to 3rd gear its a long race haha but it would be interesting to see

are you underestimating the d16 lol long race not really long at all in my car once i hit vtec in first when i change gears im still in vtec which is 4500 to 5000 rpm and it redlines at 7200rpm so maybe an 7-9sec race depending on where you want to stop in third lol that cam makes a huge difference i will make a believer out of you soon enough lol i raced a volkswagon jetta 1.8l turbo like a 2004 model on patton and beat it by a car length so only thing that will make the difference if we race is where you turbo stays at peak boost in the rpm range if it stays at peak boost low to mid range you take me off the line and i catch up quick if its mid to high end range we stay kinda even off the line and youll probably win but i dont think it would be by anymore than 2-3 cars at best if we raced to 100mph

i dont mean i want to stop the race in third i meant i might catch up near the end of third

this civic was tuned at pheonix motorsports before i bought it for the cam and vtec engagement

heres is a mathmatical version of how the race might go down if it occurs im going to assume you have a 92-93 integra instead of a 90-91 cuz im not sure which it is 90-91 has 10less horse power and you have a b18b1 motor stock internals with dsm injectors on 8psi the b18b1 integra motor in the 92-93 models makes 142hp and 127ftlbs torque stock with a redline of 6800rpm (power peaks sooner than the civic) with the turbo given that on average when running boost below 10psi you get 7hp per psi which would give you 56hp on a brand new motor well say youll gain 42 cuz of wear on the motor or tranny which always effects power a little and you probably gain around 25ft lbs torque so that put your hp at 182 and torque at 152 weight of your car if its 2dr or aka 3door is 2643lbs +30lbs for the added weight of the turbo kit weighing in at 2673 with a gear ratio of 1st 3.23 2nd 1.9 3rd 1.269 4th 0.966 5th 0.742 final drive 4.266 compared to the civic with 1st 3.25 2nd 1.9 3rd 1.25 4th 0.909 5th 0.702 final drive 4.25 as you will notice the civic has a little bit tighter gear ratio which will allow for a little faster acceleration which i know i need all the advantage i can get lol my coupe weighs 2443lbs no driver it is about 200lbs lighter but you probably only weigh 95lbs so not really a weight difference lol stock horsepower on the civic d16z6 is 125hp 106tq with a stage 2 comp cam which adds around 12hp 6tq cold air intake which adds about 9hp and 5tq 4-2-1 headers adding around 5hp 4tq 2.5in catback exhuast no silencer adds around 9hp 12tq with a modded cat which adds 5hp 3tq which will add up to be 165hp 136tq so if you just look at that you might say the integra would probably win by a little anyway but dont forget once the civic hits vtec it will stay there even after gear changes and also depending on the turbo it will have turbo lag somewhere in the power band which will pull power below stock power levels briefly in each gear this is a big factor if you are just looking at horsepower numbers i think it will be a good race now just to be clear i think the teg will win at least by a little but im not ruling out the possibility of winning by a little bit when i push the civic hard out oh yeah civic redlines at 7200rpm thats one more small advantage lol

how did you get the hp numbers for the intake, cam and exhaust? and how is your cat modified?

the cat is beat out hollow nothing in it now its just a can basically the cam says the expected horsepower gain in the specs its a comp cam and same with the intake i gave low estimates the cat being hollow actually prolly helps alot more than i stated the headers a 5hp gain with 4-2-1 headers is a low estimate it isnt uncommon to gain 8-12hp from the right 4-2-1 header the exhuast being extremely free flow will put out more extra power than listed to i always give low estimates when i come up with numbers like that

basically they are all just estimates except for the cam the hp and tq gains i stated are easily achievable from the parts i listed them with when you buy the right ones on top of the fact the vtec switch over point was moved up to close to 5000rpm which puts peak power higher on the rpm band and increases gains made from mods such as intake header exhuast cam etc cam increases power from around 3000rpm all the way to redline

most graphs i have seen that compare before and afters of a intake and exhaust on a non tuned car are usually only increase in a few hp.

like i said this car was tuned after the cam was installed you dont have to have a turbo to get the ecu tuned graphs you saw were prolly for newer cars or sports cars that already come with just about the best parts already on them so they wont gain much like for say the honda s2000 which doesnt have much you can do inexpensively and expect to gain any power and the b18c5 it comes with a ported head with high compression headers that are just as good as after market therefore you wont see much gains the graphs you see in the magazines are just ppl that have a nutsload of cash and think 3hp is worth 2000 dollars they know that those cars come hooked up from the factory thats why they promote them as sports cars the hp numbers are a big selling factor so with those cars they do their best to get it right the first time look at the expected gains from an aem cold air intake on a civic ex its prolly more than what i said and they are made exactly the same as the jegs intake i have just with a different air filter

and another thing with the intake its a cold air intake filter is located directly behind the passenger vent hole in the front bumper outside the engine bay it is a fact that every 10 degrees colder the air is than the engine bay that comes through the intake you gain about 2hp 1tq because colder air is more dense so power varies with speed of the car and the outside temperature on a very cold day it can easily make up to 15 more horsepower than than the stock intake this info can be found on the net easily if you dont believe me lol

and last thing is have an upgraded cam increases gains seen from bolt ons due to higher airflow needs basically making it possible to get the most out of all of your parts

and something i forgot if i had a short ram intake i would prolly only gain 3hp if that thats why i ripped the short ram off when i got it and put on the cai
